Petals ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Petals mobile application and website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our services.

By using Petals, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Information You Provide

• Name — provided during onboarding to personalize your experience
• Email address — optional, used for account recovery and communications
• Question answers and reflections — your responses to daily questions and dare reflections
• Photos, videos, and voice notes — optional media uploaded as part of dare completions

Information Collected Automatically

• Anonymous user ID — generated by Supabase authentication
• Device push token — for sending daily reminders and notifications
• Usage analytics — app interactions and feature usage via PostHog
• Crash reports and diagnostics — error data captured by Sentry to improve stability
• Purchase history — subscription status managed by RevenueCat

Petals uses Supabase anonymous authentication. When you first open the app, an anonymous account is created automatically. You can use the app without providing an email address. If you choose to add an email later, your anonymous account is upgraded to a full account for recovery purposes.

• To provide and operate the Petals service, including daily questions, dares, and the relationship garden
• To sync your data between you and your partner
• To send push notifications (daily reminders, partner activity)
• To process subscription payments and manage your account
• To analyze usage patterns and improve the app experience
• To diagnose and fix bugs and performance issues

We use the following third-party services to operate Petals:

Your data is stored securely on Supabase servers with Row-Level Security (RLS) policies ensuring you can only access your own data. Authentication tokens are stored locally on your device using expo-secure-store, which leverages the platform keychain for encrypted storage.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with data brokers. We do not use your data for cross-app tracking or advertising. Your data is only shared with the third-party services listed above, solely for the purposes of operating the Petals service.

Question answers and dare completions are shared with your connected partner as part of the core service functionality.

• Access — you can view all your data within the app at any time
• Deletion — you can delete your account and all associated data from Settings > Delete Account. This action is immediate and irreversible
• Data portability — you can request an export of your data by contacting us
• Correction — you can update your profile information within the app

Petals is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the effective date above.
